VOTW: The Fray - How To Save A Life

My all-time favorite television show on Earth is the popular ABC hit "Grey's Anatomy". I would stop and drop any and everything to make sure I tune in to every single new episode. It was a requirement. Everybody that knows me know that every Thursday between 8pm and 9pm central time I am NOT to be interrupted. No phone calls. No text messages. No emails. Twitter ONLY to discuss what's happening on GA during that hour. When the "Superstition" episode aired in the Spring of season two, a song was featured that I barely paid attention to but liked the melody. Luckily, GA used the song as its theme to promote season 3 that fall, which I found the song was "How To Save A Life" by a (piano) rock band named The Fray. The triple platinum chart-topping song became my second favorite song of all time, which is why I chose it as the Video of the Week for the blog.

The song is about someone wanting and trying to reach out to a friend that is in trouble but doesn't know how, when it might be too late.

Lyrics:
Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came

CHORUS:
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And pray to God he hears you

CHORUS:
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

CHORUS:
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life
How to save a life
